[Industry Insights] Opportunities for Domestic RF Industry
Publication time : 2021-07-15

The 5G era has opened up new prospects for the development of the RF industry. The demand for mobile smart terminals has surged significantly. Mobile terminals are expected to quickly meet various consumer needs, which in turn requires a substantial increase in data transmission volume and speed. This has heightened the demands for RF front-ends.

Broadcom, Qorvo, Skyworks, and Murata, four overseas giants, almost dominate 80% of the market share, a situation often referred to as the "four-legged dominance" in the industry. Other overseas suppliers include Epcos, Peregrine, Infineon, Semtech, and NXP. In the Chinese market, Skyworks holds approximately 50% of the market share, Qorvo accounts for around 40%, while other Chinese manufacturers only have a 5% market share.

Whether in the mobile field, the Internet of Things, or the industrial and automotive markets, China still has great potential for market development. This means that the Chinese market can still release dividends for RF front-end manufacturers. Stimulated by this potential, a number of domestic RF front-end manufacturers have emerged, such as SDSX. SDSX has made notable progress in providing professional power amplifiers (PAs) and low-noise amplifiers (LNAs) for equipment manufacturers in wireless infrastructure, point-to-point radio, and satellite communication fields. It is expected that domestic manufacturers will gradually increase their market share in these areas.

Talent Reserves of Domestic RF Manufacturers

There are relatively few emerging talents in the domestic RF industry, which may become a limiting factor for the rapid development of domestic RF front-end enterprises. This is also a signal that the industry should be vigilant about. The reserve of technical RF talents means that manufacturers have more opportunities to develop more products according to market demand. Focusing on the talent advantages of manufacturers may evolve into advantages in the development path of enterprises.

SDSX's R&D team holds an absolute advantage in the entire market, gathering experts from top domestic and international universities such as the University of Bordeaux I in France, Southeast University, and University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, as well as from research institutions like the Chinese Academy of Sciences and companies like Samsung and Unisoc in the RF chip industry. SDSX, committed to shouldering the heavy responsibility of domestic RF chip localization, aspires to become a world-class enterprise in the RF chip field.

Capital Market Boosts Domestic RF Manufacturers

With the support of the capital market, domestic RF manufacturers have achieved rapid development. Domestic RF manufacturers are also continuously aligning with international manufacturers in terms of product planning and performance, giving them the opportunity to become China's Skyworks. Driven by both market demand and the capital market, domestic RF enterprises are growing stronger.

Unlike in the past, with the adjustment of national strategies, the demand for domestic chips is now emphasized. The development of domestic RF manufacturers is likely to become easier. The Chinese market may well give rise to another Skyworks.
